Eugene was born in the shadows of Belmont Park in Elmont, New York.  His first job was at the track as a hot-walker for Hobeau Farms. Eugene quickly figured out that the horse was the least important part of handicapping a race. It was all about the connections. In racing parlance, that means the breeder, the owner, the trainer and the jockey. The horse in most cases was simply a vehicle to carry a wager.  You have to remember two things about betting the horses. The first is the connections, and the second is don't be shy about using the all-button. After all, only 32% of races are won by favorites, 68% by prices. The all-button is the only way to hit a monster. This year we hit all three trifectas during the Triple Crown using the connection and all-button combination. But connections are the key, and you have to be on the inside of things, or as Eugene puts it, "if you're not in the inner circle, you 're not going to be in the winner's circle"
